This article is derived from a more specific paper just on mangrove forest restoration published by the Society of Wetland Scientists in 2009. The intent of this article is to utilize some basic principles of successful mangrove forest restoration as a starting point to describe the routine problem with a lack of successful wetland restoration for all wetland types.
