Ivy Removal at WLT’s Lower Middle Fork

Whatcom Land Trust's Lower Middle Fork Complex is located along the alluvial fan of Canyon Lake Creek and the Middle Fork Nooksack River. The property was protected for permanent habitat protection in 2017, and has been undergoing restoration ever since. Existing native trees and the surrounding ground needs to be freed of invasive English ivy. Meet us at the end of our neighbor’s driveway to pull English ivy with us from 9am to no later than 3pm! Don’t forget to RSVP with Jennifer Mackey at Jennifer@whatcomlandtrust.org and please bring your own gloves! Garbage bags to remove the ivy from the site will be provided.

Directions: From Bellingham, head east on Mt. Baker Highway to Welcome and turn right on Mosquito Lake Road. Drive 1.5 miles and look for the purple WLT sign on the right to turn down the driveway for 5391.

COVID Protocols

As of April, we are limiting each work party to 10 people, including staff, so an RSVP will be required prior to each work party. All volunteers are required to have a face covering on them at all times, though it is not required to be worn while working outside if well over 6 feet away from others. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 30 days, have any symptoms of illness, or think you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 within the last 2-3 weeks, you MUST stay home even if you have already RSVP’d. Please bring your own tools and gloves if you are able, though staff will bring extra only upon request. Bring enough water and snacks to sustain you as none will be provided at this time. Hand sanitizer will be available. Please understand that if you choose to participate in a work party, you do so at your own risk. While these precautions may reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19, that risk still exists. By choosing to volunteer, you are knowingly and freely accepting the risk of contracting COVID-19.
